True Secrets of the Men Who Stare at Goats

It may seem incredible: much of the story behind the feature film The Men Who Stare at Goats is based upon secret U.S. government programs to turn paranormal phenomena into operational intelligence.

Now, thanks to a Congressional mandate that took the Central Intelligence Agency by the hand and directed them to release twenty-five years worth of previously hidden documents, the truth about the men who stare at goats, psychic spies and psychokinetic "Jedi warriors" is available for all to see.

STARpod.org has posted a selection of documents taken from 89,900 pages released a few years ago, including one briefing document for The Secretary of the Army that states:

"We are no longer confined to remote viewing [a kind of psychic long-distance perception] as our principle tool and will now develop and use telepathic and psychokinetic skills. An important application of our new Mission Statement will be the development of countermeasure capabilities."

FOX NEWS is passing along a breaking story that the Russian Navy has released documents of USO encounters.

USOs -- Unidentified Submersible Objects -- are alleged extraterrestrial craft that are said to shadow military vessels.

According to the account as told by FOX NEWS, based on the reporting of RUSSIA TODAY:

"They are most often seen in the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, in the southern part of the Bermuda Triangle, and also in the Caribbean Sea," said one naval intelligence officer quoted by the Web site.

Another incident cited involved six unknown objects that followed a nuclear submarine in the Pacific. When the sub surfaced, so did the objects — which then lifted themselves out of the water and flew away.

According to RUSSIA TODAY, more than half of the UFO reports involve water.

Vladimir Azhazha, former navy officer and a famous Russian UFO researcher, says the materials are of great value.

“Fifty percent of UFO encounters are connected with oceans. Fifteen more – with lakes. So UFOs tend to stick to the water,” he said.

Ingo Swann, the former trainer for many of the United States' military psychic spies, wrote about an encounter with a UFO above a lake. Swann claimed to have been taken to observe the UFO by an unknown black-ops unit that was interested in his psychic impressionso of the object.

The object under observation proceded to fire ruby-red lasers at the group, dropping tree limbs on top of the men and sending them scrambling for safety. Swann observed the object drawing a fountain of liquid from the lake. He later decided the USO/UFO may have been an unmanned (aren't they all un-manned?) drone sent to Earth to collect water for an extraterrestrial civilization.

The story of the Russian nuclear submarine is interesting fuel for conspiracy theories that the CIA's Glomar recovery operation of the Russian K-129 submarine off the ocean floor (and a previous Naval effort a couple of years earlier) may have found more than Soviet nuclear weapons, communication electronics, and codebooks.

Uri Geller and the Mysterious "11-11" Phenomenon

According to my call records, I spoke with Uri Geller, star of the new NBC TV series "Phenomenon," on the phone for the first time on Saturday, October 20th, 2007, for about eleven minutes.

Uri called because he had heard about an article I had published with the American Chronicle about how the CIA planned to covertly study his mental powers in the early 1970s.

I was immediately impressed with Uri's ability to ascertain what had been on my mind for the past few days prior to our conversation, and how comfortable I felt about discussing personal issues with him.

That conversation appears to have triggered a small dose of strangeness, which is the subject of this article.

Apparently my conversation with Uri Geller had unleashed the so-called "11-11" effect.

Uri writes about 11-11 at his website, "I started experiencing this rather bizarre occurrence when I was forty years old, at first I thought they were coincidences, I would stand with my back to a digital clock and something made me turn around and I would notice that the time would be 11:11. These incidents intensified I would be checked into hotel rooms on floor 11 room 1111. I started noticing these digits on computers, microwave ovens, cars, documents, etc. I decided to write about it on my website. I was immediately inundated by hundreds of emails from all around the world. Individuals were telling me their own 11:11 stories, almost always saying 'I thought it only happened to me.' It is difficult for me to decipher what this is all about but my intuition tells me its positive."

I had heard about "11-11" before, but this time it was my turn to have first-hand experience where "11-11" played the role of a meaningful coincidence in my life.

Various interpretations of the meaning behind seeing "11-11" have been suggested, but I'm not someone who pays much attention to the mystical significance of numbers. Two numbers have reappeared several times in my life, primarily the number seven, typically as "777" or the number "714." Personally I think it might be fun to keep track of all of the numerical coincidences, but I don't take them too seriously.

What did get my numerical attention this time around was the fact that Uri is associated with "11-11," and now that we had spoke on the phone, "11-11" appeared to be seeking out my attention.

The first time I saw "11-11" was when I arrived home the next morning, and noticed that the time was "11-11." I smiled and thought to myself, "that's Uri's number." OK, an interesting coincidence. Nothing more.

I had been waiting for an important message related to a subject I had discussed with Uri. When I checked my answering machine I noticed that the time the call was recorded was "11:11AM." Even more curious, the caller had specifically mentioned "eleven-eleven," as if to make certain I was paying attention.

I also received an email from a list I occasionally monitor for gossip that might offer news-worthy leads to interesting subjects. The first message I checked had arrived the day after I spoke with Uri, and contained a forwarded message sent the same day as our phone conversation. The topic was "Beauty of Math," and there, within the message, were some of the amazing properties of numbers involving "1111..."

Uri advises, "I believe that people who have constant contact with the '11-11' phenomena have some type of a positive mission to accomplish. It is still a mystery to me what it is that we all have to do or why are we all being gathered and connected together, but it is very real and tangible, I feel that it is immensely positive, almost like there is a thinking entity sending us these physical and visual signs from the universe. In me, it activates the power of prayer, love and determination to some how help the world. Some day I suspect we will find out the true meaning behind this puzzling phenomenon. It could start happening to you too after reading my website."

The next evening I made a quick detour to the Kitchen for my wife, and noticed the clock on the stove read "11-11."

"OK," I said to myself, "I get the message. Enough already!"

And that was the last I have seen of Uri Geller's mysterious "11-11."

By the way, did I mention my stepson's birthday is November 11th?

The 11-11 coincidences continue, following a phone conversation I had with Uri Geller.

It seems that every time I turn around, a new 11-11 coincidence is waiting to remind me that the human mind is designed to find what it is looking for.

The 11-11 phenomenon first came to my attention when Uri Geller called me about a story I wrote about him for The American Chronicle. In the 1970s the CIA was interested in studying Geller to learn the secret behind his psychic powers.

Since our conversation I have experienced numerous 11-11 coincidences. They arrive in subtle ways, like a sales receipt that "expires on 11-11-2007" or a request from a DVD club to "please respond by 11-11."

I apparently have achieved "11-11 status" in the "cosmic coincidence control center" that manages all of the weird synchroncities across the planet (I am also a proponent of many-worlds, where all that can happen does, somewhere in the multiverse -- so I am not surprised by amazing coincidences, merely impressed that I inhabit a universe where the unlikely is either randomly OR intelligently selected to appear to look non-random! )

I'll leave you with one FINAL thought ... consider this -- St. Malachy forecast the lineage of the Popes until the present Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger):

After recently reading Uri Geller’s stimulating article involving the phenomenon of 11:11, I have noticed a new and possibly more potent, time: 12:34.

I’ve encountered these numbers on clocks, but even more startling is hearing them every time someone counts out loud. Yes, this oddly sequential series of numbers is used whenever one wishes to count to any number greater than three.

The number four itself is quite odd. A quick examination yields that 2+2=4, 2*2=4, and yes, even is equivalent to four. Four is also the second square number and the second centered triangular number. Once again we are met with the two 2’s! But the four’s don’t end there. There are four cardinal directions, four seasons, four dimensions that we see, and four letters in the word four! Humans have four limbs, and are capable of counting to four on the phalanges of any of those limbs or even with the limbs themselves! Don’t even get me started on the Tetragrammaton or the Four Horsemen.

The mystery of 1234 further deepens when historical events occurring on 12/34 (a.k.a. 1/3 or January 3^rd) are examined. On January 3^rd there are 362 days remaining in the year. Six times two divided by three happens to equal four. And, not to forget leap years, in which 363 days remain, we find that the average of three plus six plus three is once again none other than four.
On top of all this are several important events that occurred on January 3^rd: the birth of Cicero (106 B.C.), the birth of J.R.R. Tolkien (1892), the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb (1924), Benito Mussolini declaring his takeover of Italy (1925). Perhaps most startling of all is the 1967 death of Jack Ruby, killer of Harvey Lee Oswald, the man many conspiracy theorists believe didn’t shoot JFK.

Sadly, the year 1234 yields much less spectacular results, although in the Holocene calendar it corresponds to the year 11234 (oh my, an 11 sighting!). A little more Googling digs up House Resolution 1234: To end US occupation of Iraq immediately. Is someone trying to tell us something here? Finally, and perhaps most compelling, is the fact that this editorial is made up of one, two, three, four paragraphs. Coincidence? I think not!

This editorial should not be taken seriously in any way, shape, or form. Furthermore, my goal is not to discredit Uri Geller’s article and ideas about 11:11. I myself have seen 11:11 at least twice since reading his article, and I am currently ambiguous as to whether or not such a phenomenon exists. This article is merely meant to be a short and amusing read.

It appears that I wrote too soon when I ended my recent story about Uri Geller's numerical mystery:

When I started writing about the "11-11" incidents, they started showing up again.

Yesterday I sent a link to the new "11-11" story to Caryn Anscomb, who lives in the United Kingdom.

She wrote back: "I read this at 11:11pm...I kid you not!!!"

Last night my wife asked me to bring her something to drink from the Kitchen. I checked the Bedroom clock and saw that the time was 11:14PM. "Ah, safe then," I mused to myself.

When I entered the Kitchen guess what time was displayed on both the digital clock on the microwave and the stove? Yes, that's right: It was "11:11PM." For some reason both clocks were exactly three minutes behind.

This morning my son emailed me:

"I was sitting in bed two nights ago and I was wondering what time it was. I knew it was 11:11 but I also knew when I got enough strength to roll over and look at the clock it would be 11:12. I was right."

Imagining positive events in the future was accompanied by activity in two areas of the brain that usually regulate how emotion affects memory and decisions: the amygdala, buried deep within the brain, and the front portion of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), which sits just behind the eyes. Conversely, activation in both these areas dropped below average when the volunteers thought about future negative events.

About a year ago I wrote a short piece inspired by STAR GATE, the U.S. Government's formerly secret research into psychic para-normality and information we were receiving about the latest research in fMRI.

One source familiar with both the old and new research told us, "I take the reality of telepathy (I love your construction better: 'direct mind-to-mind communication of meaning') as proven."

Although the information was sketchy, the implication was that a signal had been detected in the brain that appeared to correlate between different test subjects.

As late as 1994, STAR GATE researchers at SAIC -- Science Applications International Corporation -- one of the nations top defense contractors, were looking for possible carriers of signals that were assumed to the source of anomalous mental phenomena.

The use of 'telepathy' -- a speculative form of mind-to-mind 'radio transmission' -- has been of interest to the intelligence community for decades.

The question of how such a signal might propagate between brains has been the subject of speculation by alternative scientists, including those working on the problem for the government.

An early lead that originated with the FSU -- the Former Soviet Union -- involved speculative fields based on an extension of Einstein's theory of gravity, the so-called torsion or spin fields.

By the mid-1990s STAR GATE researchers were looking at alternative interpretations of electromagnetic fields, torsion spin fields, and other ideas without basis in experimental science.

Even if a mechanism for signal transmission remains unknown, any transmission-reception system would be expected to produce physical effects in the brain, which correlate to human perception. Spontaneous human cognition would presumably involve the appearance of real information in the mind without the use of ordinary perceptual channels or senses.

In other words, it would appear to involve extra-sensory-perceptions, or ESP.

Spontaneous effects in the brain are known to exist.

For example, A team of researchers at the Washington University led by Michael Fox found that fluctuations in brain activity caused volunteers to subconsciously exert slightly less physical force when pressing a button on cue.

As a result, the study concluded that the reason why even professional basketball and soccer players sometimes miss an easy shot may be partly explained by spontaneous fluctuations of electrical activity within the brain...

One might wonder if the 'telepathic channel' between players in competition might also interfere with "an easy shot."

Understanding the brain's role in anomalous mental phenomena (AMP) is not limited to the exotic cause and effect scenarios of paranormal phenomena.

The possibility exists that subtle conventional information channels exist, that superficially resemble mind-to-mind transmission, but are grounded in our existing understanding of physics and the emergent phenomena of human networks.

An electronic security system that identifies people by monitoring the unique pattern of electrical activity within their brain is being tested by European scientists.

Since an individual's brain activity is determined by the unique pattern of neural pathway in their brain, the same technique can be used for identification, says Dimitrios Tzovaras, who is the coordinator at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas. "It could be a very good security control," he told New Scientist.

We suspect a similar program is underway here in the United States, and may also involve the search for correlations between different individuals.

he British Ministry of Defence has responded to a Freedom of Information Request confirming that the MoD conducted psychic research shortly after the 9/11 terror attacks. According to the MoD, "A study was undertaken in 2001-2002 to investigate theories about capabilities to gather information remotely about what people may be seeing and to determine the potential value, if any, of such theories to Defence."

The revelation appears to confirm previous rumors of renewed interest in the use of psychic spies for intelligence collection, allegedly in response to the ever-increasing dangers of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. One of the first reports telling of reactivation of the psychic spies was passed to author Jon Ronson for his book, "The Men Who Stare at Goats." Ronson interviewed Uri Geller, formerly an unwitting CIA test subject. Geller claims to have performed operational psychic spying at the request of the U.S. Government.

When questioned about the man in charge of the psychic spies, Geller identified a high-ranking Senior Intelligence Official, known to the readers of Ronson's book as "Ron."

An interesting conjecture coming from the confirmation of official MoD government interest in paranormal phenomenology is the possibility that government agents have infiltrated private organizations interested in paraphysical phenomena, such as remote reviewing and UFO's. At least three different sources confirmed to Starstream Research that a "government person" identified a party close to our investigation as an agent of the British Secret Intelligence Service, also widely known as MI-6. The affiliation with MI-6 has been denied, but the rumor suggests an effort to protect the connection between UFO rumors, such as the so-called MAJESTIC Group, and operational psychic spying. The available evidence hints at a cooperative effort between the United States and Great Britain.
